Basildon launches a new creative tech accelerator for aspiring Essex tech founders

This Summer, ‘Launch It: Creative Tech Accelerator’ will launch to encourage and support local entrepreneurs across Essex. The programme, delivered by Basildon Borough Council in partnership with South Essex College of Further and Higher Education, is designed to help encourage local entrepreneurs from across the region in the ideation of their business ideas, and provide the resources and support for their scale.

To deliver the program, the partnership has engaged Fossu Ltd, a boutique innovation consultancy with experience in delivering a variety of local and national incubators and accelerators. In addition to the 10-week accelerator program, Fossu Ltd is also leading on a wider suite of engagement events for local entrepreneurs and aspiring founders. These include an evening event of start-up talks and networking, and a weekend ‘hackathon-style’ event aimed at the local Essex student entrepreneur population and hosted in Basildon Town Centre.

Funded by the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF), the Launch It: Creative Tech Accelerator and accompanying events comes at a time of real investment into the local Basildon area; with a recent announcement of £4.4m from the government’s Cultural Investment Fund into Basildon Town Centre for creative and digital sectors.

Starting in May, it is expected that the suite of programmes and events will engage over 100 aspiring founders in the region, with 30 expected to join the 10-week Launch It: Creative Tech Accelerator programme. The demo-day event, which will be delivered at the programme end, aims to showcase the successful founders from the programme and seeks to attract local angels and investors from across the region to join.
