Basildon Centre was buzzing on Thursday 23 October as Pathways, a Basildon Council initiative, hosted two exciting construction events designed to connect local people with career opportunities in the construction industry.
From 11am to 1pm, the Basildon Construction Careers Fair opened its doors in the foyer, marking the formal launch of the Basildon Construction Academy (BCA).
In September, councillors unanimously approved the phased roll-out and long-term operation of the Basildon Construction Academy at a Cabinet meeting.
Pathways supports residents in retraining, building confidence, and enhancing their skills to access secure, fulfilling, and well-paid jobs. The Careers Fair offers a unique chance to meet face-to-face with top employers and training providers eager to share the wide range of opportunities available in the construction sector.
Employers attended the event include:
· Balfour Beatty
· Elkins Construction
· Emerson Crane Hire
· The Hill Group
· Indecon Building Ltd
· Site Ready Solutions/GSQ Brickwork
· Taylor Woodrow
· The TP Group
Training providers offering funded courses in CSCS, trade skills, and construction boot camps were also on hand.
The Basildon Construction Academy aims to bridge the skills gap in the borough's rapidly growing construction sector by providing tailored training, qualifications, and career support. The initiative is part of Basildon Council's broader vision to boost local employment and economic prosperity.
