New Year, new start! After a full review of the Basildon for Business website the Economic Development team agreed the site was not fit for purpose due to the change of landscape and work priorities. We worked closed with the web developers to reorganise the site map, update content, and introduce some new features such as 'Invest in Basildon'.

Working in partnership with local business innovators and leaders, educators, careers professionals and creative industry specialists, the Festival will deliver a programme of events that are designed to excite and inspire young people (11-18) to find their place in Creative Tech.

This Summer, ‘Launch It: Creative Tech Accelerator’ will launch to encourage and support local entrepreneurs across Essex. The programme, delivered by Basildon Borough Council in partnership with South Essex College of Further and Higher Education, is designed to help encourage local entrepreneurs from across the region in the ideation of their business ideas, and provide the resources and support for their scale.

More than £4m is to be invested to turn empty properties in an Essex town into facilities for those involved in the creative and digital sectors. Basildon Council has been awarded £4.4m from the government's Cultural Investment Fund, Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer announced.

An electric car charging forecourt which was delayed over concerns about increased traffic has been approved by Essex councillors. The Gridserve charging station, which includes 31 charging points, a café, lounge, gym and children’s area, will be built in Wickford next to the A127.

A new Basildon retail park with Lidl, Greggs and other firms is taking shape with construction progressing quickly. The St Hilary Retail Park is being build off Miles Gray Road and when completed will have a Lidl, Greggs, Tile Mountain and other firms.

Plans have been put in place for three construction hubs to be set up in locations across south Essex at Basildon Town Centre, the Airport Business Park, Southend, and Thurrock. These hubs, located on or adjacent to construction sites will be central to training people up for these construction positions.
